Collapsed scaffold crushes 8 cars in Long Beach
LONG BEACH, Calif. — Eight cars were crushed in a scaffold collapse but no one was hurt.
The six-story scaffolding collapsed in strong winds at about 11:30 a.m. Monday, authorities said.
The metal and wood structure smashed windshields and dented hoods of parked cars. In addition to the crushed cars, at least four more had scratches or other minor damage.
Fire Department Battalion Chief Frank Hayes said a blue tarpaulin over the scaffolding may have caught the wind gusts like a sail and pulled it down.
